One common theme in the responses I received was to make my communication as clear as possible, which seemed like a simple enough task. However, as I reviewed my schedule for the next day, I discovered that I had a dentist appointment a few hours before work. My time in the chair included a shot to induce local anesthesia on the right side of my mouth.
Despite my newfound imparity, my eight hour training session with the new intern was a success. I explained my situation at the beginning of the shift, and she was kind enough to ask me to repeat any instructions that seemed muddled. I will be sure to review my schedule more carefully before booking two potentially conflicting engagements so closely together.
I am so glad you were able to successfully train the new intern even though your mouth was numb. I hate going to the dentist for that reason. There is nothing worse than talking to someone while drooling all over yourself.
ReplyDeleteI have been in your shoes. What was supposed to be a simple cleaning turned into a couple shots in my cheeks that numbed me up for hours. I had a dinner with my friends that night, and while they found my situation hilarious, I was unable to actually enjoy dinner and join in the conversation my friends were having. Life throws curveballs sometimes (all of the time), and you have to be adaptable enough to deal with them. Sounds like you did a great job at that!
ReplyDeleteAngela, great insight! I found that having a daily planner is very effective at eliminating schedule mix ups. The bookstore sells returned missionary planners that are pretty precise. But they have a variety depending on what works for you. I just like those ones :)
